100 YEARS OF HISTORY

Family-owned Hotell Kristina was founded in 1990 in three listed buildings, which for over fifty years housed the boarding school Sigtunaskolan. The restaurant and public areas are newly renovated in a modern functional style. Now you are met by our exciting history even indoors.

Hotell Kristinas byggnader

In 1924, the boarding school “Sigtunaskolan” was founded by principal Harry Cullberg. Three beautiful, listed buildings from the 30s, still carry many memories from this era. In the 70's, when it was largest, 280 students went here, from 11 years up to and including high school. In the 60’s it became a school for girls as well.

Our main building in a functional style was designed by the architect Johan Åkerlund, who is also behind Sigtuna Humanistiska Läroverk and the Sigtuna Foundation.

The dormitories and classrooms are hotel rooms and conference rooms today. The former auditorium is our unique conference room “Teatern”, with high ceilings and space to dream of for a party organizer.

The restaurant once was the canteen, where the students gathered for all meals as we still are today. Exercise and activity were important and our guests use the beautiful indoor swimming pool funded by the Wallenberg family, whose children where students at the school. Each part of the hotel carries its own stories. Do not forget to look down as you walk up our limestone stairs, whose steps are shaped by the 3300 students who walked the stairs for more than 50 years!

The name Kristina? It comes from the fact that Queen Kristina of Sweden, according to legend, rode from her hunting lodge, over the hills where the hotel is located, to Wenngarn's castle.
